Collar de cuentas venecianas antiguas,

y piezas de plata de un collar antiguo de Colombia

Las cuentas para el comercio, o trade beads, se produjeron en Venecia, Bohemia, y talleres artesanos de Holanda y Alemania, entre los siglos XV y XIX. Se destinaban, primordialmente, al comercio con los países africanos, en cuyos mercados eran apreciadas como moneda de cambio, permitiendo a los europeos el intercambio comercial.

En África se han conservado diversos tipos de collares hechos con estas cuentas, que han pasado de generación en generación y son, hoy en día, muy valorados por los coleccionistas. Se clasifican según su diseño, el taller de origen y su antiguedad.

Arriba : las cuentas de este collar, originarias de Venecia, han sido clasificadas como eye beads. Son negras con ojos blancos y rojos sobrepuestos, y ornamentos amarillos. Se comercializaban en Etiopía hacia finales del siglo XIX y comienzos del XX. Se han combinado con moras de plata de un collar antiguo de Colombia.

Trade beads were produced in Venice, Bohemia, and craft workshops of the Netherlands and Germany between the fifteenth and nineteenth centuries. They were primarily intended to trade with African countries, whose markets appreciated them as currency, allowing Europeans commercial exchange.

In Africa, several types of necklaces made from these accounts have been preserved passing from generation to generation and now are highly valued by collectors. They are classified according to its design, the workshop and its ancient origin.

Up: The accounts of this necklace, originating in Venice, were classified as eye beads. They are black with white and red eyes, superimposed with yellow ornaments. They were traded in Ethiopia to be marketed in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries and have been combined with silver berries from an antique Colombian necklace.
